DEPARTURE LOUNGE

It might have been that "Mantovani Magic" record in your grandmother's collection or Bert Kaempfert''s "Strangers in the Night" piping through the shopping mall speakers. Or the Mike Sammes Singers on "Friday Night Is Music Night". Perhaps it was one of Keith Mansfield's TV themes, a BBC Radio jingle or Geoff Love and his Orchestra on the Music for Pleasure record label. In Germany it was Heinz Kiesslings "Cool Nights" or "Days of Summer" by Addy Flor and his Orchestra. For all the unpromising terminology ("light music", "muzak", "elevator music" and the like) much of it was first-class stuff by first-class musicians. If you are in doubt, try Keith Mansfield's "Soft Cell" or Addy Flor's "Chica Do Verrao" . Strap in, extinguish your cigarettes and enjoy the flight!
